I have been approved!

I found out this morning that I have been approved as a photographer for NILMDTS (Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep). I submitted an application several months ago and just got the news this morning! NILMDTS is a non-profit organization....a group of photographers who volunteer to go in and capture the last precious moments between parent and child. I decided to apply as a way to honor a friend who gave birth to a stillborn almost 6 years ago. I wanted to be able to provide the families with something to help them grieve and remember.

From what I know so far, when I get a call...I have to go unless absolutely impossible. I am covering 60 miles, 3 hospitals. I will spend awhile with the family...giving their baby the photo shoot he/she deserves..and then I'll provide the family with a CD and DVD of those moments. I'll be going through training....but I'm not sure how much that training will do until I get in there and experience it.

I've seen the pain that my friend has gone through and while I don't know what it's like to be in her shoes...I want to do my part to make the process a little easier on others. I've learned through her that these mothers are very special people and these babies are incredibly special. I don't want babies to be forgotten. They deserve to be remembered.

So if any of you have been through the mourning process of losing a baby, my heart goes out to you. I know what it's like to miscarry, but I do not know what it's like to kiss a baby goodbye. But I'm trying to do my part to help and I hope I do it in a way that honors the family!

I think it is wonderful that you are doing this. I can only imagine how difficult it will be when you go to the families. But what a blessing you will give them with the pictures you take.

This is great!!! I was just recently reading about this in a magazine. I think it was a parents/kids magazine in a doctor's office. What a great ministry you can provide. For those who don't know God, your assurance to them that their baby is in heaven will cause them to want to know more about that so that they too can see their babies in the future. Just that seed planted in such a difficult time can make them have a whole new perspective on life. Use this opportunity to serve Him to the fullest! How Awesome of an opportunity! :)
